The Man Behind the Stories

Portrait of Johnnie C. Johnson Jr.

From the moment he attended his first live theatrical production at six years old, Johnnie C. Johnson Jr. knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life. While most children left the theater talking about the actors, he left fascinated by the person who created the story. That single experience sparked a lifelong passion for storytelling that continues to shape his career today.

A native of Oklahoma City, Johnnie began writing in elementary school and has spent decades developing stories that entertain, challenge, inspire, and stay with audiences long after the final page or curtain call. Today, he is an accomplished author, novelist, screenwriter, playwright, producer, and storyteller with more than several dozen copyrighted creative works spanning stage, film, television, fiction, and nonfiction.

Johnnie has brought original stories to audiences through both live theater and film. His stage play She’s Not Our Sister premiered at Dallas’ historic Majestic Theatre before returning in a celebrated production that drew more than 4,200 patrons. The story was later adapted for television, reaching an audience of more than two million viewers. His feature film The Love You Save, starring Robin Givens, Christopher Williams, and Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, further established his reputation as a storyteller capable of creating compelling narratives across multiple mediums.

His growing body of work includes stage plays, screenplays, novels, and television projects such as Memoirs of a Side-Piece, The Other Side of Me, A Princess in the Ghetto, Leave of Absence, A Jones Family Affair, Love in a Bottle, and many others currently in development.

Whether writing a psychological thriller, an emotionally charged family drama, a romantic comedy, or an inspirational stage production, Johnnie’s goal remains the same: to create unforgettable stories driven by authentic characters and meaningful themes.

In addition to his creative career, Johnnie has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and holds a law degree from Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, Texas.
